The Mayan religion was founded in 250AD, in Mesoamerica, Southern Mexico, with the rise of the Mayan civilisation. There were up to 2 million followers at one time. Today, several million Maya practice a form of Roman Catholicism which incorporates many elements of traditional Mayan religion. It is a polytheistic religion with four main gods being worshiped; Itzamná, Kukulcán (Quetzalcóatl), Bolon Tzacab and Chac. Its main practices are Astronomy, divination, human sacrifice, elaborate burial for royalty and worship in stone pyramid-temples.
