Mayan Religion is of polytheistic faith as The ancient Maya had over 150 Gods in their complex religion, each with clearly defined characteristics and purposes. Some Gods, however were considered more important.
The four main Gods were
-Itzamna, the God of fire who created the earth and was the ruler of heaven, day and night
-Kukulcan, The powerful snake god
-Bolon Tzacab or Huracan, God of storms, wind and fire. He waa also responsible for the flood that occurred to wash away the wooden civilisation
-Chaac, the god of rain and lightning
The Gods powers controlled many different aspect of life and ranged from Chaac (lightning and rain) and Zipakna (earthquakes and mountains) to Acat (god of tattooers) and Acan (god of wine)
•The Mayans believed the world was divided into three parts: the heavens, the earth and the underworld, all linked together by a giant world tree
•Mayan Gods were involved in all aspects of life: The weather, the harvest, partners, birth and death
